Nothing feels better than spending some quality mother daughter time. However, finding quality movies that both of you will enjoy is a tedious task and can take away from the fun of a mother daughter movie night; with this in mind I give you, my list.
Here are my suggestions for good quality one-on-one movies to make your Mother’s Day movie night just between mom and daughter the best movie night ever. With that said, butter up the popcorn and snuggle up with one of your favorite people in the world and prepare to get nostalgic with your mom or daughter.
You can see my recommendations for Father’s Day dad and son movie night here.
May I suggest these Movie Night picks for young to pre-teen ages.
“Freaky Friday“ Extremely funny and heartwarming comedy everyone will love. A struggling relationship between an overworked mom and her teenage daughter. After eating a magic fortune cookie, they mysteriously switch bodies under a spell, forcing them to adapt to each others lives. They gradually come to terms and make their relationship better than ever. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, Mark Harmon.
“Little Women“ In this classic, three sisters are raised by their mother while their dad is off fighting in the Civil War.
Times are tough, but ultimately, these women stick with each other, even when romance comes into the picture. Starring: Winona Ryder, Gabriel Byrne.
May I suggest these Movie Night picks for teens to adult ages.
“Mamma Mia“ If you are a fan of musicals, then this controversial musical should be on the top of your must see list. It is about a bride-to-be who tries to find her father based on stories that she has heard.
The movie takes place in a bed and breakfast on a Greek Island that is operated by both mother and daughter. Starring: Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan.
“My Big Fat Greek Wedding“ We have seen this happen all the time. People marrying below them, cross culture, or out of their expected religions and we all know the story that leads up to the wedding. My Big Fate Greek Wedding is no different; it is about a Greek woman falling in love with a non-Greek man.
The story depicts the chemistry between the two love birds, while showing the woman’s family’s resentment to the union in a comedic, must see way. Starring: Nia Vardalos, John Corbett.
“Monster-In-Law” An all time favorite. This show is a must see, starring Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda, and Micheal Vartan. The sparks between the two lovebirds, Lopez and Fartan, is dwindled by is aggravating mother, who will do anything to destroy the blossoming relationship between her son and Charlotte (Lopez).
Fonda will stop at nothing to see this relationship goes down the drain; however, this comedy takes a turn for the better when the daughter-in-law decides to play the mother’s game.
“Because I Said So” This is a modern age version of parents trying to pick their children’s suitors, with the major stars being Mandy Moore as Milly and Diane Keaton, Daphne. This show takes you through a Daphne meddling in her Milly’s life, trying to find her the perfect man but is taken aback when Milly meets the man of her dreams, one that Daphne had turned down as not being good enough for her child.
However, this show takes a turning for the better when Daphne finds her true love after being single for years. Starring: Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore.
“Heartbreakers” A movie for the now generation, this movie is about a mother and daughter con team that goes around seducing wealthy men out of their monies.
