Let’s be direct here and say that market shopping with small ones can be quite a nightmare. You should make sure they are too tired to run wild and require every sugary material they see, although not so tired that they have a meltdown the very first time you say “no.”
The good thing is that with a few tricks in your pocket you may make grocery shopping simpler for you and more enjoyment for the children. The trick would be to use simple games to educate and get them involved in the act.
Ask your kid to locate and identify something in each isle which you enter. You could question them to find three red things in the produce isle. They not only need to point them out but also name them – for instance, apple, tomato and pepper. In the packaged goods isle you’ll be able to alter the game and ask them to find something that is round. This may make them seem long and tough as most items in the packaged isle are boxes. Remember, it is “I Spy,” so be sure you discover the item before you ask them to.
Counting and Spelling Games
As you find things in the store, ask your child to count them. For instance, should you grab three cans of soup ask your child, “How many cans of soup do we have?” This helps them learn to count and reinforces the concept.
Weighing and Helping Out
If your child is older you can ask them to help with the shopping. You could ask them to weigh a couple of bananas. The process of weighing teaches them about physics and numbers. Older kids can also catch items that are on lower shelves. This helps them feel useful as well as a productive part of the household during the shopping procedure.
Finally, be ready for tiredness and collapses. It Is not a great idea to bribe children with rewards for good behavior however there are certain ways to generate fun while shopping. Ensure that your kid is well fed before going shopping and request their view on several items. For instance, “do you want chicken noodle soup or tomato soup?” When kids feel they’ve participated in the process, they’re less likely to act up.
